About me...

In 2012, I graduated from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, with a B.S. in Geology.
I am single, live in Houston, Texas and have one dog who stays with my mother/step father due to the nature of my job. He is a wonderful little mutt and his name is Buddy.

My hardhat has been with me since I started, 5 years ago
My job is unconventional to say the least. It certainly isn't a path I grew up wanting to take but it is undeniably a path I am proud to have ended up on. It has afforded me innumerable experiences that I would have otherwise never had.

Picture walking around the deck of a ship longer that 2 football fields as you peak over the edge to flirt with 10-15 dolphins just barely breaking over the top of the water. Arching up and out just enough to allow you a glimpse before dipping back down and breaching 40-50 feet from where they were just a second ago. Tuna, mahi mahi, barracuda, and scores of other smaller fish that swim just below the surface so that you see exactly how many of them there are.
I'm up at the break of dawn to see the most amazing sunrises that peak over a horizon full of nothing but water that embodies every shade of blue you can imagine. Some days it's as smooth as glass and on others it is relentlessly rough and choppy as if to remind you that it's alive. My favorite days are when you can look out over the railing and peer off into the misty expanse that is glowing from the moonlight or the sun and simply breath with the ocean. The slow and rhythmic rise and fall of the water as it moves against the ship. Those are the moments I am truly grateful for the planet I live on and the prospect of exploring every inch of it.

Misty morning

So what do I do? I work as a Unit Supervisor for an offshore Mud-logging unit on board one of the most advanced ships in the world. It is a drill ship (yes, a big; bad oil drilling ship). Right now we are about 200 miles off the coast of Louisiana and my job is to ensure that what happened on the Deepwater Horizon in 2010, NEVER happens again. I take my job very seriously and it is imperative to me that as we drill; we leave the environment the way we found it. To date, the ship/rig I am on has not had a single spill or release of oil to the environment. Something all 200 crew members on board take a lot pride in.
I spend a lot of time out on the water. My schedule is 3 weeks offshore. That is 7 days a week, 12 hours a day. Sounds like cruel and unusual punishment, except when I get home, I get 3 weeks off. Not 3 weeks in an office, but 3 weeks to come and go as I please. As long as I have an internet connection at hand; my supervisory role can travel with me, and it usually does!
That is where I am at in my life right now :)

Perfect ending to the day
